Starting A Life Coaching Business Is A Lot Like Losing Weight

How is starting a life coaching business even remotely related to losing weight?

life coaching and weight lossBecause, how we think about one thing is how we tend to think about a lot of things. And a lot of the time we’re thinking nothin’ but junk.

Thinking “junk thoughts” is a lot like eating “junk food.”

I’ll never grow a successful business like hers; What’s happening on Facebook?  =  I’ll never lose the weight; Pass the cookies please.

This tech stuff is way too hard; I’ll write a blog post.  =  Food talks to me! I’ll have fries with that.

No one is signing up; I’m going shopping.  =  The weight isn’t coming off; Oh, there’s a drive through!

I don’t know what to write; I’m calling my mother.  =  These hot flashes are killing me!; Gimme some cake!

See what I mean?

It all starts in our heads… literally.

  1. We think about something that makes us feel one the fifty shades of bad;
  2. We distract ourselves by doing something totally unrelated to fixing the problem.
  3. The problem remains.

But let me be clear: reality is never in our heads.

Reality is what is. It’s what cannot be changed.

The tech stuff needs to get done. That’s the reality, if you want to run a business. The junk thoughts that come with that reality are fattening and unhelpful and keep you from taking action.

Junk thoughts arrive at those times when we’re being pushed into unknown territory and we think we can’t figure out what to do about it. So we come up with all sorts of non-sensical thinking… the thoughts that were downloaded when we were six and haven’t been updated since.

In my book, The Dignity Diet: How to End the Cycle of Cry-Eat-RepeatI talk about how you can’t lose the weight on your body (for good) until you lose the weight in your head.

And in my new book, Gutsy Glorious Life Coach: How to Turn Your Life Coaching Practice Into A Soulful Money Making Business (available on Amazon), I talk about how you can’t grow a successful coaching business until you learn to manage your mind, a.k.a., losing the weight in your head.

The weight we carry in our heads is loaded with junk thoughts.

Junk thoughts are like kryptonite.

They make you weak at the knees.

They make you question your resolve when it comes to your life coaching business.

They make you feel incapable of… losing weight, getting the guy, passing the test, moving on.

They make you do (and not do) things that ultimately sabotage your best intentions.

Junk thoughts threaten to rob us of our Guts, Grit, and Grace.

So what’s a smart, savvy, gutsy girl to do?

She calls on her Adult Self to figure things out.

To catch the junk thoughts while in progress and challenge them outright.

I am smart enough to figure this out, and if I truly can’t, I’ll hire someone to show me how it’s done.

Food does not have control over me. It’s just food. I’m in charge here. (Food, take a time out while I figure out what I’m going to do next.)

I’m divorced. But I’m not dead. I will move on.

Menopause is stalking me. I am determined to learn how to manage it and thrive!

You can do this, my gutsy-gritty-graceful and utterly glorious girlfriend!

You absolutely can do this.
