MEET YOUR GUTSY-ASS SELF

20% gutsy

Have you met your Gutsy-Ass Self?

Your Gutsy-Ass Self knows exactly what to do in any given moment.

She knows what she needs and what she wants and most importantly, she knows the difference between the two.

She doesn’t get caught up in all the juicy emotions that can keep us stuck in a deep funk.

She’s way more powerful than a mere locomotive. For that reason alone, she could care less if she’s faster than a speeding bullet. She knows when to take her time and when to step into high gear.

In fact, your Gutsy-Ass Self (or G.A.S.) is always always always available to you.

If you’re thinking, “I’ve never met that woman,” let me just say this:

OH YES YOU HAVE.

Think of a time when the chips were down, you felt stuck or trapped, or you just felt blech.

And then, no matter how long it took, the chips were up again, you un-suck yourself, you felt better. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, but it was better.

Think of the times you achieved something that filled you with pride.

Think of the times you’ve felt deep unconditional love and connection with another person.

Think of the times when you got yourself through a challenging time in your life and made it to the other side – upright and alive.

Like this past year (2020).

That, my friend, was when you stepped into your Gutsy-Ass Self, perhaps by default. Without realizing it, you summoned an inner strength and wisdom you may not have known you had. Even if it wasn’t perfect, you got through it. You found a way. How do we know this?

Because you’re still standing.

Give your G.A.S. some credit!

Your G.A.S. is a badass on steroids.

Think of your Gutsy-Ass Self like this: She’s comparable to a Bugatti Voiture Noire, a car that’s so high tech (and so expensive – look it up, it will blow your mind), most people would have no idea how to drive it.

That’s how we tend to “drive” our lives – without full comprehension of, or appreciation for what our Gutsy-Ass Self is even capable of and how she can organize our life (and the people, places, and things in it) so that it works for her.

Stop Listening to Laverne and Shirley

Do you allow the voices in your head to run your life will-nilly? The ones that make you think you’re stuck or overwhelmed or that you can’t figure something out or, at their worst, the ones that make you believe you’re a bad bad girl?

The voices in my head have names, to wit, Laverne and Shirley. Laverne is my bossy-pants mean-girl dictator. Shirley is all about taking the easy road. She loves to hang out in our comfy cozy comfort zone. She doesn’t like doing anything that feels hard. She’s adorable and the life of the party and I love her but she’ll do anything to let me off the hook. I call on her whenever I’m working on something creative and fun, otherwise, she’s not allowed to run my adult life because she’s only six!

Now, to Laverne’s credit, she has a point sometimes. Like, when I want to NOT hop on my Peloton. It’s just that she can be very mean about it. And Shirley is right (sometimes) when she want to get me to go out and play or when it really is a good time to turn on Netflix and binge it up.

But my Gutsy-Ass Self is the one who makes the call (with kindness and my best interests at heart) because she truly knows what’s best for me. Here’s the tricky part: unless I consciously step into the shoes of my G.A.S., I’m more likely to fall prey to the whims of Laverne or Shirley.

You G.A.S. always knows what’s right and what’s best for you in your life.

Ok, so maybe you need to have a talk with your G.A.S. to sort through some things like, what really does matter to you, what won’t you tolerate anymore, how do you expect to be treated by people?

Consciously thinking about these things puts you in better touch with your values and it establishes your principles, which will help guide you through life’s ups and downs as well as establish boundaries that work.

This is what it means to become a Woman UP – a woman who is guided by her Gutsy-Ass Self – a woman who knows who she is and doesn’t apologize for the parts of her that are exactly the way she wants them to be.
